Where do I go to get a pregnancy test done by a doctor? Family doctor or GYN?

If you have an HMO, you generally need to go to your Primary care physician first. He/She will give you a test in their office to confirm, and then refer you to an OB/GYN.

It’s totally up to you. Ultimatly, your gyno will be the one taking care of you, and that’s where I started with my second child. However, I did go to my family practice dr. first and it was a waste of a copay. He just told me that if the test showed pregnant, I was pregnant and gave me the names of some gyno’s to go see.

The believe you can go to either. Both will probably send you to a lab for a blood test.

I would first take a store test. Then or go to a planned parenthood to make double sure. Then call a ob/gyn for an appt. to take the real tests and the exam and all. good luck

I would go straight to the OB/GYN. They are the ones who are best equipped to take care of you and the baby during your pregnancy. Let them know you got a positive test.
They will ask when you last missed period was, and make an appointment based on that. They probably will not want to see you until you are 6-10 weeks, usually though about 8 weeks is average. You should probably get a prenatal vitamin before that, and I believe you can get them in the vitamin section at many stores like Target and Wal-Mart.
Congrats!

In my experience they will just say, “Oh, so you got a pos HPT? Then yes you’re pregnant. Come back and see the midwife at 12 weeks or so.” If you’re luckier and in a better healthcare region than I was then it might be 8 weeks. But, I don’t want to burst your bubble but you probably won’t get much notice taken of you until you’re a bit further on. They won’t tend to retest you, a pos HPT is as reliable as their own tests so there is no point. I wish you all the best anyway!!
